Transfer vehicles and shuttles are a key component of many single level systems and are used to transfer cargo between storage lanes or to connect different areas of the system.
We have also used them in multi-level systems to provide a lift and shift alternative to having an ETV.
The advantages of a TV are simple design and maintenance with low running costs particularly is only manned part time or automatically controlled.
Lift & Shift
This is a technique where several single level systems are stacked on top of each other and linked by freight elevators.
Typically it is a little more expensive to operate than an ETV based system but it has the advantage that several pallets are being moved concurrently so it has a very high level of throughput and also redundancy. Pallets will always be able to be moved through the system if a key component breaks down where as an ETV can only move one or two pallets at a time and if the ETV breaks down the whole storage system shuts down.
